The root cause of FEAR, and what to do about it

by Alvaro Lima

In today’s world, there are many people living with fear. Fear of failure, fear of commitment, fear of death – the list goes on. Some people feel uncomfortable just speaking about fear. However, it can be uprooted from your life.

In biblical times, in the Book of Genesis, Adam and Eve were living a perfect life. However, this ended when they had eaten the fruit that God had specifically told them not to touch. As a result of this, Adam became fearful of confronting God and his nakedness symbolised his disobedience to Him.

I heard Your voice in the garden and was afraid because I was naked, so I hid myself.’ (Genesis 3:10)

This story illustrates how disobeying God causes people to become fearful. Whether it is fearful in a particular situation or being afraid of the future, this person’s life becomes stagnated due to fear.

The only way to become completely free from fear is to obey God’s Word. When you do God’s will, fear will no longer stop you from achieving what you want. Furthermore, when you experience difficult situations, instead of fearing whether it will be resolved or not, you will experience great strength and have faith that everything will work out for the better.

What is the secret to overcoming fear?

OBEDIENCE. When you stop sinning, and follow what God is telling you, this is when fear no longer controls you.

We all experience fear but when we give our lives to God, this fear has no leverage over us and we are able to achieve even greater things in our lives!
