The root cause of many problems is spiritual. Demons work to influence us to act out of character. Yes, we have to resist evil and expel them, but when they leave, they always look for ways to come back. “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. Then he says, ‘I will return to my house…ʼ” (See Matthew 12:43-45)

Maybe you are wondering, “how then do evil spirits enter a person’s life?” Simple, through open doors. There are many sins and weaknesses that give them access to work in a person’s heart and mind such as witchcraft, consulting mediums, horoscopes, fortune tellers, astrology, etc. which are not based on the Word of God. And when they are practiced, either knowingly or unknowingly, the devil has full access to our lives. Remember that the devil is very cunning; he makes these practices seem tempting and harmless and present them as a shortcut to success. However, they only serve to make us fall into the trap of worshipping the creations and not the Creator. (See Deuteronomy 4:19)

God wants us to consult Him on every step we take. And the truth is that, these practices do not work. They only lead to frustration and heartaches. That’s why we have to learn to base our faith on the Word of God, which is the only truth that sets us free and delivers us from the schemes of the devil.

It should be noted that the people in the past were initially placing their faith in Baal. Only when God’s people in the time of Gideon placed their faith in the Word of God, did God bring about changes. This clearly shows that with God it’s not just about theory, there must be practice. We must strive to follow His principles and sever all ties with the world. More than anything else, God doesn’t want to lose our souls!

Do you want to glorify God like Gideon did? Then do what he did. Make God the only “Star” in your life! When we display this attitude of faith by tearing down all the false idols, obeying precisely what He tells us to do and make a covenant with Him, He will cause a “before and after” in our lives. The question is: Will you have ears to listen?
