“Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.” (Hebrews 10:38)
Living by faith is living in obedience to the Word of God. When we live by faith, we choose to abandon the pleasures of this world in order to please God and to do His will. We put aside all forms of sin in order to truly serve Him.
“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” (Matthew 6:24) To serve mammon is to serve the God of this world, that is to serve ourselves and to live a life of vanity, unforgiveness, pride and the like.
That’s why we must choose to follow the principles of God and not the principles of the world. The world will always try to ensare us to turn our backs on God, but the truth is that when God gives a direction and we don’t follow it, we open doors for evil spirits to enter into our lives. Just like the children of Israel, when they chose not to heed God’s direction in order to do their own will. (see Exodus 16:16)
“Notwithstanding they did not heed Moses. But some of them left part of it until morning, and it bred worms and stank. And Moses was angry with them.” (Exodus 16:20) By choosing to ignore God’s command they did not live by faith. On the contrary, they gave more attention to the voice of their flesh with disastrous consequences. God was not pleased with them.
The same applies to us today. When we don’t obey God, we are left to suffer the consequences and deal with the pain of His rejection. But when we live by faith, God is closer to us and we have the power to overcome all challenges because where there is faith, there is power. We can never forget that when we choose to sacrifice and obey God, He honours our obedience to Him.
“If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.” (John 12:26)
