Apostasy is the denial or abandonment of faith by someone who previously practiced it. This denial often leads to rebellion, betrayal and disbelief and ultimately leads people to turn their backs on the truth, that is, the Word of God. Nowadays, we have apostates spreading rebellion, division and dissension inside and outside of the church. However, this is not a new practice. The first apostasy started in heaven when war broke out and Lucifer convinced one third of the angels to come with him. (See Revelation Ch 12) Today, the devil’s intention is to do exactly the same thing on earth. And sadly, he is convincing and deceiving people everyday to join his cause.
What we cannot forget is that apostasy is a prophecy. Many will depart from the faith not because there is something wrong with Christianity, but because it is a sign of the end times. “Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons.” (1 Timothy 4:1)
We have to be extremely watchful because the apostates will use fake news and other sources to spread lies for the sole purpose of contaminating people and turning them away from Jesus. They will come as wolves in sheep’s clothing and will seek to cause division in people’s minds because before Jesusʼ return, the Antichrist will reveal himself.
“not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition…” (II Thessalonians 2:2 – 3)
In spite of this, we cannot be scared or worried by the things that are happening around us. Instead, we must look to ourselves and be vigilant at all times so that we will not fall prey to the schemes of the devil. “Look to yourselves, that we do not lose those things we worked for, but that we may receive a full reward.” (II John 1:8)
As we journey towards the end, things will only get tougher and the devil will use all sorts of tactics in order to take our souls to hell. That’s why we must strive to protect ourselves, because if we don’t watch we can lose our salvation. We have to be watchful of those who do not preach God’s truth and be radical not to entertain those who have left and are spreading lies. All the devil needs to enter into our lives is a seed of doubt, that once sown, will be hard to undo. For this reason, we must choose to be one of Jesusʼ Apostles of today and keep ourselves focused on His coming, so that nothing will derail us from attaining eternal life.
