“Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors!” (Matthew 24:32 – 33).
We are in a rehearsal for the end of days. Even though we don’t know the exact hour our Lord Jesus will return the signs are visible and this period of turbulence will only get worse. Everything that is happening around us today is a preparation for what is to come. The current COVID-19 situation seems to give a glimpse of how the final days might look like. It’s a time of fear, anxiety, and uncertainty.
Unfortunately, just like in the times of Noah, many will be caught by surprise and will be carried away by the flood. “For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark…” (Matthew 24:38). Nowadays, people are getting married and divorced easily. The promiscuity level of this generation surpasses the level of Sodom and Gomorrah and many are getting carried away by the pleasures of this world. They are paying little or no attention to the fact that this world is coming to an end. When the rapture is spoken about, people think it’s a crazy notion; the world can try to deny that the rapture will occur, but what cannot be denied is that what Jesus said is happening and His Word will come to pass (See Matthew 24:35).
For this reason, we cannot be outside the Ark; neither can we afford to fall into the trap of unbelief because everything that is happening is paving the way for the Antichrist to rise (See Revelation 13:16). The Antichrist will come with a banner of peace and will take total control of the world; this includes the implementation of the mark of the beast. That’s why the devil is already creating these situations so that we will learn to adapt and accept the signs as the new-normal.
For those who want to be with Jesus, now more than ever, we need to be alert or we will be deceived. We cannot allow circumstances such as the lockdown to destroy our faith. On the contrary, we must aim to get closer to God even in the midst of a pandemic. When we know the truth and don’t practice it, the devil will find a way to destroy us and we won’t stand for long. Even those who are next to us, won’t be saved if they don’t choose to believe for themselves. Our prayers can help them to escape disasters, but when it comes to salvation, it is individual. We cannot compromise it; nothing can interfere with our relationship with Jesus.
We have to be like the 5 wise virgins who didn’t share their oil (See Matthew 25:1-13). In the same way, we cannot share our salvation, it is not feasible! Instead, we must remain ready and focused. “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” (Matthew 24:44).
Each one of us must seek to act now and cut off whatever is interfering with our relationship with God. We have to be alert at every hour and every moment. Even before going to bed, we must check our “spiritual temperature” and analyse how we are. That means we must be ready to sever ties with our old self, ask for forgiveness, cut off malice, bad friends, sinful habits, grudges, etc.
For this reason, Jesus teaches us to get rid of whatever causes us to sin (See Matthew 5:29). If we are not radical, we will fall and lose our salvation. We will be like the foolish virgins who were left behind.
This rehearsal that we are currently experiencing, will soon become a reality. If we don’t open our eyes and pay attention to the signs, we will fall into the hands of the devil and consequently pay the heavy price of being left behind. This is not what our Lord Jesus wants for any of us. The question is: Will you have ears to hear?
