Have you noticed how people get prepared for things in life? Students for a test, people who apply for a job, a bride for her marriage, etc.
Now imagine preparing for the most important thing in this life. To receive the Holy Spirit you need to prepare; that is through fasting, meditation on the Word of God, emptying yourself of the things of this world and focusing your entire life on this goal.
The Holy Spirit comes upon us so that we can be God’s representative in this world. All those who received Him prepared themselves, they focused their mind and thoughts on the things of God.
However, after we’ve received the Holy Spirit, we must live in a continuous state of readiness. We need to prepare ourselves for what is yet to come as long as we are living in this world. We have to continually invest in our spiritual life and in our spiritual structure. If we don’t pay attention, we can fall, just like the 5 foolish virgins.
The 5 foolish virgins were caught by surprise and left behind due to lack of preparation. They assumed that they will be ready when the time came and this is the mistake many people often make.
“Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them.” (Matthew 25:1,3).
In order to avoid this from happening to us, we have to ensure that we are alert and focused at all times, because there are many people losing opportunities and even their salvation due to lack of preparation. We have to be like the 5 wise virgins, who did not relax and were ready when the Lord Jesus came for them.
“And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut.” (Matthew 25:10).
For this reason, our spiritual structure must be rock solid. We must stand on the pillars of our faith and build our house on the rock.
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24 – 25)
God doesn’t want us to crumble when the storm comes. That’s why we must build our structure daily and seek for the extra oil, so that we may stand strong during trials and tribulations. “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33).
When we continuously strengthen our spiritual life and our foundation is rock-solid, nothing will be able to destroy us and most importantly, we will stand firm until the end.
