As long as we live in our physical bodies, we must fight everyday against temptations that are caused by what we think, say, see, listen to and feel. In other words our brain, mouth, eyes, ears and heart. These are the 5 entry doors for sin and if we can close these doors, we can overcome the will of the flesh and consequently be saved.

It is certainly true that some days will be harder than others, but God will never allow a temptation, tribulation or a problem to be heavier than what we can carry (see 1 Corinthians 10:13). Each one of us are a part of God’s plan and He has a purpose for us. However, in order to see His plans being manifested in our lives we must resist the desires of the flesh daily.

“Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” (Luke 9:23).

Jesus understood the importance of doing this because He had to resist temptation too. “Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry.” (Matthew 4:1 – 2).

The devil didn’t come in the first 5 days. He came after 40 days when Jesus was at His weakest; His flesh was screaming for food. Satan used that opportunity to come with his suggestions but Jesus did not fall for his tricks…Why? Because He answered NO to all of them (see Mathew 4:4,7,10). Saying NO is the medicine used to combat the will of the flesh. It is a painful but essential remedy that we must use daily in our fight against sin.

Indeed, we must put ALL our strength into resisting the desires of our flesh. We have to strive to bloodshed against sin, (see Hebrews 12:4) and be firm in order to say no to sex before marriage, lying, pornography, doubts, bad eyes, malice, etc. We cannot afford to be relaxed or else the devil will find a gap and use it to his advantage.

The problem is that we often think that we have time and we assume that God will forgive us everytime we sin. Indeed, God is merciful, but what if we never get the chance to repent? What happens when it’s too late?

The reality is that if we do not rule over sin and we allow sin to dominate us, our souls will go to hell and there will be no turning back. For this reason, we have to seek God daily and put into practice His teachings because He won’t carry our cross for us but He will give us the strength we need in order to overcome all challenges.

What choices have you been making recently? Have you been saying YES to God and NO to sin? Have you been resisting to the point of bloodshed?

Remember, if everytime our flesh pushes us to sin and we say no, we will finally defeat this spiritual disease called sin.
