Today’s message is about choice. Life or death, the decision is yours. In Deuteronomy 28, you are going to find the results of a life of obedience to God, and the results of a life of disobedience to Him.
There are two groups of people in this world: those who obey God and those who do not. But of course, God does not force anyone to obey Him; you choose freely and individually whether you obey Him.
Your life is yours, however, remember that for every action there is a reaction – good actions will bring good reactions, just as bad actions will bring bad reactions. Even when knowing all this, there are some people who expect to bear good fruits when they sow bad seeds.
‘Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments, which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God.’ (Deuteronomy 28:1-2)
This verse then goes on to say that there are 14 blessings, however, there is a condition, ‘IF you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God’.
Another IF we find in the next verse, verse 15:
‘But it shall come to pass, if you do not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments and His statutes, which I command you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you’. (Deuteronomy 28:15)
In total there are 54 curses – the difference in numbers of curses and blessings is abysmal, so much so that some people may wonder whether God prefers the curse to the blessing, but that is not the case. That is not the case AT ALL. God does not want anyone to suffer, instead He prefers warning to judging.
Is your life up and down? Do you feel like whenever you try to mend it, it falls apart and you find yourself in an endless cycle of doing the same thing over and over again?
You may be under a curse, but God does not curse anyone. It is us who place ourselves under a curse, for as mentioned above, we choose freely.
Your life today is the result of the decisions you made yesterday. Be reminded that when you live life far from God, eventually, the devil will pull the rug from under your feet.
When you get to the end of this article, you will go back to your normal life. But God does not want you to go back to the same thing. He sees your suffering – so much so that as you are reading this now, this is God saying, ‘where are you going like this?’
You are in the shelter of the Most High when you are obedient to God. He is setting two paths before you, but ultimately, the decision is yours. Choose Life.
