The Vaccine Against Evil Series
What is a vaccine?
A vaccine is a biological preparation that improves immunity to a particular disease. A vaccine typically contains an agent that resembles a disease-causing microorganism, and is often made from weakened or killed forms of the microbe, its toxins or one of its surface proteins. The agent stimulates the immune system to recognize the agent as foreign, destroy it, and “remember” it, so that the immune system can more easily recognize and destroy any of these microorganisms that it later encounters.
When the virulent version of an agent comes along, the body recognizes the protein coat on the virus, and thus is prepared to respond, by neutralizing the target agent before it can enter cells, and by recognizing and destroying infected cells before that agent can multiply to vast numbers.
Vaccines have contributed to the eradication of smallpox, one of the most contagious and deadly diseases known to man. Other diseases such as rubella, polio, measles, mumps, chickenpox, and typhoid are nowhere near as common as they were a hundred years ago. As long as the vast majority of people are vaccinated, it is much more difficult for an outbreak of disease to occur, let alone spread. (Wikipedia)
The spiritual world functions the same way. The church is the body (1 Corinthians 15.40; Colossians 1.24; Ephesians 5.23) and is vulnerable to spiritual attacks by the devil that weaken, paralyze, destroy and sometimes even kill the body.
What risks do I run when I am not immunized?
When a person does not receive the proper vaccines, he is susceptible to spiritual viruses and diseases that can attack at any moment and cause him to weaken in his faith, or even die spiritually.
What are the devil’s viruses?
The Bible compares the devil to a serpent (Genesis 3.1; Revelation 12.9; 20.2) with deadly venom. The disease of the devil is the venom he uses to contaminate sincere Christians through thoughts, situations, words, emotions and ideas that lead them to a spiritual breaking point. Various viruses or methods are used by the devil to discourage, corrupt and contaminate people. During the Vaccine Against Evil Series, we will be speaking about each disease and how to defend yourself against it.
How can I know whether or not I’m already contaminated?
Spiritual emptiness, discouragement, confusion, doubt, skepticism concerning the things of God and those who serve Him, a lack of interest in reading the Bible and prayer, a lack of desire to fast and attend church meetings, being inconsistent or easily offended (any small thing is enough to stop you from coming to church), etc.
Why do I need to be immunized?
When a person is born into the world, he is normally immunized against certain dangerous and deadly diseases. We are all born unprotected and need to develop defenses against disease outbreaks.
The Bible says that when we are in Christ, we are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5.17). When we are born of God, we also need to develop defenses against the attacks that we are going to experience in the new spiritual world in which we find ourselves. It is important to note that being immunized does not mean that evil will never come close to us. It will. Spiritual viruses come to all of us, but only those who have been immunized will have the antibodies to fight back and overcome. “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.’ Luke 10:19.
