Born-Again Christians

Everybody is born with a carnal nature inherited from Adam and Eve, which is instinctive and inclined to sin. When a person is born of God, they inherit the nature and mindset of Him who bore them. Unfortunately, we see many people who say they are born again Christians but do not think, or act as God does and some even still live in sin.

People use the new birth as a title to describe themselves when in reality they have never been born of God. The new birth is far deeper than what they think. It is not about adopting the idea or teachings of the new birth, but actually being a child of God. This is only possible when we die for this world.

Those truly born of God have no space in their lives for the things of this world. They think, feel, talk, act and live like God does, since they were born from Him. They resemble their Father and therefore, have His characteristics imprinted into their mindset. There is no way a person who is born of God is inclined to sin, even though they continue to be sinners. They have a spiritual nature. Even though they still exist in a fleshly body they are never dominated by the desires of the flesh, nor by the influence and negativity of the world which only serves to instil doubt and confusion.

The new birth is similar to how Jesus was conceived:

“The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.” (Luke 1:35)

The Holy Spirit acts in our conscience to convince us of our sinful ways. If we accept His warnings, we are taking the first step towards the new birth. This acceptance cannot be in words alone, but in action. You have to truly want to be different from the rest of the world. To reject the world and your own carnal nature is the second step. Only those who have denied their carnal nature and seek wholeheartedly to have a spiritual nature are actually born from Him. Then, you have to live a life according to God’s will.

The new birth is the process of burying our old lives so that a new person is born – like destroying an old vessel and making a new one so that the Holy Spirit can be able to be poured into us. It is a necessary process towards the baptism in the Holy Spirit and the salvation of our souls. Those who still live a life in sin cannot say they are born of God. And how can God save them, if He does not have any association with sin?
