“Remember Lot’s wife…”
Day 11 (Genesis 19)
26 “Lot ran, his daughters close behind. “But his wife, from behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.”
What did Lot’s wife do that was so wrong?
What was wrong with Lot’s wife was that she wasn’t just looking back; in her heart she wanted to go back. It would appear that even before they were past the city limits, she was already missing what Sodom and Gomorrah had offered her.
She turned and watched the flaming sulfur fall from the sky, consuming everything she valued. Then it consumed her.
The Hebrew for “looked back” means more than to glance over one’s shoulder. It means “to regard, to consider, to pay attention to.”
It is interesting that she is described as a “pillar.” The Hebrew for “pillar” refers to a garrison or a deputy, that is, something set to watch over something else. The image of Lot’s wife standing watch over the Dead Sea area — where to this day no life can exist — is a reminder to us not to look back or turn back from our journey of faith, but to follow the footsteps of Abraham until the end!
“Now the just shall live by faith;
But if anyone draws back,
My soul has no pleasure in him.” Hebrews 10:38
Perhaps a couple of negative things have happened around you since the moment you decided to embark in this journey of faith, you feel your legs are heavy at this point and it seems the journey is too hard for you. Maybe you are being bombarded with negative thoughts telling you to look back, for you to give up on the idea of sacrificing to God…
“DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO NEGATIVE THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS!
RIGHT NOW GOD RENEWS YOUR STRENGTH
AND PUTS IN YOUR HEART THE ASSURANCE OF YOUR VICTORY!”
Reject all negativity from your life! Look at the promise; look at what God will do in your life! See you on the Altar.
