The 3-Week Journey in the Faith of Abraham – Day 8

And Abram heeded the voice of Sarai…”

Day 8 (Genesis 16)

1 “Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. And she had an Egyptian maidservant whose name was Hagar. So Sarai said to Abram, “See now, the Lord has restrained me from bearing children. Please, go in to my maid; perhaps I shall obtain children by her. And Abram heeded the voice of Sarai…”

One day, God made a promise to Abraham that he’d not only become a father, but a father of many nations.

But the voice of God was not the only voice around Abraham…

Abraham was a great man of God, but he was still a man and susceptible to human flaws.

The Bible doesn’t only reveal to us the virtues of men and women of God but also their flaws, so today, we may learn not only from their successes but also from their mistakes.

Today, you will learn from Abraham’s mistake.

And Abram heeded the voice of Sarai…”

He listened to the voice of Sarai, who represents, the voice of the heart. (I’m sure her intention wasn’t bad, however, both of them suffered the consequences of their mistake.)

When God speaks to you, when He gives you a direction, an inspiration, make sure you listen to His voice and to no one else’s. Certain things God will reveal to you only, not even to those who are close to you. Be careful with voices around you, if you don’t watch, they will interfere in your purposes with God.

It’s normal to talk to people we trust about our plans and intentions, however, when God gives you His word, His inspiration and direction, make sure you do not reveal that to anyone. Certain things you should not even speak to your pastor about, it is between you and God.

For instance, asking what sacrifice you should present to God.

Sometimes when God inspires people to sacrifice to Him, they go around disclosing it to everyone, without knowing that they may be influenced by voices that can lead them to do what God doesn’t want them to do, and that was exactly what happened to Abraham.

As a pastor, I have the duty of clarifying people’s doubts, but when it comes to telling them what they should or not sacrifice to God, that’s beyond my reach!

I may even suggest something, but it will be like Sarai telling Abraham what he should do! Instead of helping people, I will create problems for them, as Sarai created a BIG problem not only to Abraham but also to herself.

As you probably  know the rest of the story, Abraham learned his lesson, when God told him to sacrifice his son, he did not tell anybody, not even Sarai his wife (She’d probably have said: “Are you crazy? My only son! Go and sacrifice Ishmael instead, not my Isaac, my baby”…)

If you need direction concerning what you should sacrifice in this Campaign, ask God. For sure, He will reveal it to you in the same way He told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac.

Maybe, He has already done it, but probably you are facing a conflict between your heart and your mind, your feelings and your faith!

Don’t listen to the voice of your heart; it will be like listening to Sarai, instead, listen to the voice of God, trust Him! He is speaking to you right now…
