‘Spiritual HIV’ – Virus #7

The most fearsome virus in existence today is HIV, which leads to AIDS. And yet this virus does not itself kill anyone. It weakens the natural defenses of the body in such a way that pneumonia or the flu is able to kill a person. The spiritual virus we will speak about today works similarly to the actual HIV virus, as it attacks the spiritual defenses of those it infects.

 VIRUS no. 7 – SIN

Faith is a gift of God that connects us to Him and is our weapon against all the viruses of evil that have been spoken about up till now, and is based on a good conscience. “…having faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck…” 1 Timothy 1.19.

Good conscience -> Faith -> Communion with God -> Certainty, victory, courage, protection, trust…

When something affects our good conscience, faith collapses. The devil knows there is no way he can overcome this supernatural power, and so his strategy is to make us surrender this weapon, thereby making us vulnerable to his attacks. He works in the following way:

Temptation -> Sin -> Guilty conscience, doubt, a lack of faith, spiritual death…

This is what he did with Adam and Eve. By convincing them to disobey God (sin is obedience to the devil) he turned them into his servants. “Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?” Romans 6.16.

Below are some examples of things the devil uses to cause people to fall into sin:

  • Relationships – Casual sex, uncontrollable passion, adultery, etc.
  • Material riches – Greed, theft, the love of money, materialism, etc.
  • Lies – He puts us in situations where lying appears to be the easiest way out. Remember, all lies have a father.
  • Addictions –  The Internet, drugs, alcohol, everything that is done to the extreme and eats away at your self-control.
  • Bad thoughts and feelings Rage, resentment, grudges, hatred, self pity, a desire for revenge, pride (what caused Lucifer’s fall)…

The symptoms of those who live in sin: A lack of desire to pray (without faith, how can we connect with God?); thoughts that God is far away; spiritual weakness (a lack of interest in the things of God); an absence of peace; depending on the faith of others; indecision, doubt, confusion; fear; passivity; sadness; insecurity…

“Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death,” James 1.15.
