Vaccine #5

3 steps to overcome discouragement

The cure for this disease is perseverance, holding firm to your convictions, trust and communion with God, and refusing to pay attention to circumstances, time and difficulties. This communion with God is essential, because it produces the faith that sustains us. Imagine this:

You, in times of faith: The problems are there, but so is God.

You, in times of discouragement: The problems continue and you don’t have the presence of God I wonder if things would get better if I just gave up on my faith?

If you want something from God, insist until you receive it. “Yea, but it’s too hard…” If it’s hard with God, imagine what it would be like without HIM!

Remember: Make a Chain of Prayer. It works! (Luke 18)

“Forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3.13-14.

Stop moaning about your past. Start focusing on the present. Remember, that what you do (or fail to do) today determines what tomorrow will be like.

You have to be deaf to the negative voice of discouragement. A woman who attends our church recently gave her testimony, saying that on the very day she had planned to attend church, she had this thought: “Don’t go to church today. Petrol is expensive. Only go on Sunday. Nothing’s wrong with that…” And she reacted like this: “What? I reject that thought so much I’m going to attend two meetings today!”

Follow this example. Learn to pay the devil back. If he tries to discourage you, REACT! Do what he’s not expecting you to do. Be unpredictable: If you normally cry, now fight. If you normally get depressed, try again and again.

Discouragement comes to us all, especially to those who belong to God: “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” John 16.33. When you notice that this virus is trying to enter your body, when the symptoms mount up and begin to appear, start taking the above steps.

“Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise: ‘For yet a little while, and He who is coming will come and will not tarry. Now the just shall live by faith; but if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.’ But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.” Hebrews 10.35-39

Victory will come only after we overcome discouragement!
