The Work of God starts in us when we have the courage to get rid of sin and everything that does not please God. It is true that God wants to be glorified in this world. But how can we glorify Him if sin is prevalent in our lives? It’s impossible! We have to be those who are revolted against sinful habits, pleasures of this world, traditions, religiosity, our will, etc. This is what it means to ‘not accept the unacceptable!’. Even our Lord Jesus asked: “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?” (Matthew 16:26).

Our lives depend on us, not God! God wants to change our stories, and He certainly can. After all, is there anything too hard for Him? But first, we have to obey Him and tear down all the altars of Baal in our lives; we have to remove anything and anyone that is occupying His place and distancing us from Him. God is looking for those who are willing to listen to His voice, irrespective of the circumstance.

This is what He found in Gideon. Gideon had a problem that he could not solve with his own strength. He wanted the work of God to be real in his life, but he also had to get rid of sin first, because God cannot work where sin exists. And he obeyed God’s voice by removing all idols and sacrificing what God asked of Him. The second bull was God’s choice; Gideon had to trust God with his entire life. At every stage of the battle, Gideon showed his trust and that’s why the 300 defied the odds and defeated the Midianites. Part of our sacrifice is to trust God too; to trust that, when we bury our old lives on the Altar and present what He asks of us, He will make of us great testimonies that will save souls in this world. When we trust God, we are no longer alone. Gideon was definitely not alone. He had the courage to demand the fulfilment of God’s Word in his life; but God also demanded from Gideon obedience and complete trust in His Word. In other words, show Me your faith and I will show you My glory.

Remember that, God’s blessings are conditional. His eyes are always searching for men and women of God who are willing to make a difference for His glory. He is looking for the 300 of today. However, only those who are willing to follow His guidance will see His power in their lives and consequently attain the greatest blessing of all: SALVATION!
