We know that there are four blood types – A, B, AB and O – but do you know yours? You don’t? Well, you should. It’s important because this information aids good health and is crucial in case of emergencies.
Now, in the spiritual realm, there are different faith types, and it is also important that you know which one is yours, because it reveals the reason why your life is the way it is.
There are two types of faith: natural faith and supernatural faith. Do you know yours?
The Bible tells us in Hebrews 11:1 that “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” This is the description of supernatural faith. Therefore, natural faith is the gift that works according to the circumstances. It is the belief that when you get on a bus, you will reach your destination; that when you plant a seed, it will grow. Every time you stand up, you use your natural faith because you believe that your legs will be able to support your weight. It is so ingrained in you that you do it naturally. This is the natural faith that you were born with.
Those who live by natural faith look at their problems from the bottom up, whereas those who live by supernatural faith have a different vision; they look down at their obstacles from a bird’s eye view. Those who live by natural faith obtain natural results, but those who live by supernatural faith achieve supernatural results.
In order for you to know your faith type, you need to assess the kind of results you have been getting. Unlike natural faith, supernatural faith needs to be acquired. It is the type of faith that saves, delivers and moves mountains, and to possess it you must practice this: “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17).
The Hebrew word for “hear” is “shema”. It doesn’t just mean to hear or listen, but to hear and do. In God’s terms, this means to hear and obey. The act that accompanies hearing is the proof of hearing the word of God and the two cannot be separated.
Maybe up until this moment, you have been living your life using natural faith, but you have come at a crossroad. One way presents supernatural faith and the other, natural faith. One way permits that you hear and obey and the other, that you only hear. The choice is yours.
